About Cape Town Airport
Cape Town (CPT) Airport is the main international
airport in Cape Town, South Africa. It is the second
busiest one in the country and the third busiest one on
the entire continent. Situated around 20 kilometers (12
mi) away from the city center, it is the only airport in
Cape Town offering scheduled passenger services. In
2009, it obtained the Skytrax award for the best airport
in Africa.
As for the improvements added to the airport, the most
important ones are related to the preparation of the
2010 FIFA World Cup, when it was largely extended and
renovated. More specifically, a Central Terminal
Building was created, linking the domestic and
international terminals and providing a common check-in
area, with 120 check-in desks. The upper levels are
reserved to the departures, while arrivals are located
in the lower levels. The terminal also features 10
bridges and an automated baggage handling system, with a
capacity of 30,000 bags per hour. A viewing deck and the
largest Spur restaurant in Africa can be also found in
here.
